Chasing Dreams with the XFL

This time of the year is a tough one for most football fans. Super Bowl LVII came to an exciting finish with the Kansas City Chiefs beating the Philadelphia Eagles 35-38. Now, all we can do is look forward to next season through the draft process. But, that doesn’t mean football has to stop.

ESPN Deportes Reveals XFL 2023 Kickoff Season Schedule & Commentator Team

This spring, two football leagues will be playing: The XFL and the USFL. It’s no secret that other pro football leagues besides the NFL have not been the most successful. But this season, both leagues are looking to make a statement that will have their name on the map.

The XFL is a fan-first, fast-paced global professional football league with innovative rules and an enhanced game experience. Eight teams are split into two divisions – the North and the South. One exciting feature is the gameplay innovations which delivers fans a faster pace of play and more action.

With the return of the XFL in hopes of it’s first full season since 2001, they are also producing a nine-part documentary. “Player 54: Chasing the XFL Dream” will follow key players, coaches, and figures across the league during the 2023 season. The series will be featured on ESPN starting Thursday, February 16 at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN2. The series will also air on ABC on Saturday, February 18 at 2 p.m. ET. Episodes will also be available to stream on ESPN+.

Co-Owner Dwayne Johnson talked about his personal connection in an interview with ESPN. “There are 53 players on an NFL roster – I was number 54.” The XFL is about dreams. And while some of those players are ones who made the 53-man roster and were drafted by the NFL, this league is about more than those facts. Everyone has a different journey. It doesn’t come easy trying to make it in a cutthroat profession. Each of these players have a desire, and that is to play and prove themselves.

When watching sports, it’s natural to get caught up in the game. As fans, we get frustrated and scream at a bad play call or horrible penalty by the refs. But one thing that is important to remember is they are people to. They don’t like to make mistakes, and fans become quick to pass judgment. This documentary will help fans connect with players and learn about them in a personal way.

With the league being in its second season with new ownership, they are still making their mark. Getting an insight on the league establishes a more personal connection with fans, which is one their main focuses. We can watch these players living out their dreams. Creating this series will not only get viewers but will also help gain a following.

The XFL is about chasing dreams. Watching and listening to the players during the season is very unique. Getting to see the teams and players in an intimate setting pulls on that emotion connection and investment. With amazing leadership from everyone involved, I already know this is going to be a great series to watch.
